Ridge to River Landscape Recovery Project
Vision: A mosaic of woodlands, parkland, meres, farmland and floodplains providing food, habitat for wildlife, protecting water whilst contributing to climate mitigation and social value.
Nature
We will boost biodiversity and species resilience by restoring connected, wildlife-rich habitats and improving protected areas.
Climate
We will use nature-based solutions to address climate and ecological emergencies by restoring ecosystems that store carbon, reduce nutrient loss, and support net zero goals.
Community
We will connect the community to their landscape, enhancing health and well-being through better access and the protection of cultural heritage.
Food Security
We will help farms adopt regenerative agriculture practices to reduce emissions and nutrient loss while maintaining high-quality food production.
Nature Recovery in the Upper Wye Valley

Located in the Upper Wye Valley between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, Ridge to River epitomises the heart of rural Herefordshire.
The landscape plays a crucial role in providing environmental services essential for human existence.
This 30-year project aims to support long term land use change at scale, demonstrating how sustainable food production can be delivered alongside environmental benefits.
Through collaboration, we will co-design practical outcomes which meet the future need of communities, delivering nature’s recovery and mitigating against climate impacts.
The Project Area
Tucked away in the Southwest corner of Herefordshire, this tranquil landscape is famous for its breathtaking landscapes and agricultural productivity
To the north, low-lying, fertile land is bounded by the River Wye, and to the South, land rises steeply to a limestone ridge, providing stunning views across the neighbouring Golden Valley and Black Mountains beyond.
Past glacial activity has created a diverse and productive landscape, hosting a mosaic of woodlands, parklands, meres, farmland and floodplains.
Human influence has played a huge role in shaping this environment, providing the rich landscape heritage still visible today.
